“Navigating the Path to Becoming an International Student” Seminar Empowers Students at English Education Study Program, Islamic Institute of Hasanuddin Pare

On Saturday, 21st June 2025, the English Education Study Program Islamic Institute of Hasanuddin Pare (IAIH Pare) held another inspiring and impactful seminar titled “Navigating the Path to Becoming an International Student.” The event was part of TBI Festival as a consistent series of academic enrichment programs organized by the department to support students’ global aspirations. This year’s seminar featured two distinguished speakers, Mr. Endrik Sugianto, S.Pd., and Ms. Faridatul Istighfaroh, M.Pd., who shared practical insights and motivational stories about the journey of studying abroad.

The seminar was held in the main auditorium of the campus and attended by students, lecturers, and invited guests. The event opened with a warm welcoming speech from Mr. Umar M. Pd. I as the Rector of IAIH Pare, who expressed his pride in the English Education program for their consistency and commitment in holding beneficial academic activities. In his opening remarks, he stated,“I am very proud of the English Education Study Program for continuously organizing such meaningful programs. It reflects not only academic dedication but also a strong commitment to preparing students to compete globally. This seminar is a valuable platform that opens the minds of our students to international opportunities.”

He emphasized the importance of global exposure in the modern academic world and encouraged students to actively participate and apply the knowledge they gained in the seminar toward their future educational goals.

Mr. Endrik Sugianto opened the first session with a detailed and practical guide on how students can begin their journey toward becoming international students. He highlighted the importance of early preparation, including improving English proficiency, building strong academic records, and being involved in extracurricular activities that demonstrate leadership and initiative.

He also discussed strategies for choosing the right country, university, and program based on students’ goals and financial capacity. Mr. Endrik gave a comprehensive overview of the application process, including tips on writing a compelling personal statement, preparing recommendation letters, and understanding the requirements of popular scholarship programs.

“The key is to start preparing now. Don’t wait until graduation. Build your experience, sharpen your English skills, and dream big,”he encouraged.

The second speaker, Ms. Faridatul Istighfaroh, M.Pd., continued the session with a focus on the application journey and life as an international student. She shared her personal experiences studying abroad, highlighting both the challenges and the unforgettable learning moments she encountered.

Ms. Faridatul guided students through the process of applying for student visas, preparing financial documents, and managing the interview stage. She also discussed various scholarship opportunities such as LPDP, Chevening, and Erasmus+, explaining their benefits and application timelines.

Moreover, she shared tips on cultural adjustment, time management, academic expectations in foreign institutions, and maintaining emotional well-being while far from home.

“Studying abroad is not only about getting a degree—it’s about growing as a person. You will learn new values, make international friendships, and see yourself and the world differently,” she shared passionately.

Certificates of appreciation were then awarded to Mr. Endrik and Ms. Faridatul for their valuable contributions. The event ended on a high note, with participants feeling more motivated and better prepared to take their first steps toward international education.

The “Navigating the Path to Becoming an International Student” seminar was not just another academic event—it was a transformative experience that opened doors and minds. With the guidance of experienced speakers and the full support of the university leadership, the seminar succeeded in encouraging students to explore the world of international education.
